CATHERINE RISS NATURAL WINES

Catherine Riss
Alsace, France

Having studied viticulture and Oenology in Beaune and Dijon, Catherine Riss arrived back in her native Alsace in 2009 to work with Chapoutier’s establishment in Reichsfeld. Under the guiding eyes of Antoine Kreydenweiss and Lucas Rieffel, she purchased her own domain in 2012, which has today grown to 4 hectares.

Certified organic since 2015, all Catherine’s wines are the result of organic farming and natural winemaking techniques. Her steep vineyards sit high at the base of the Vosges mountain range, growing within sandstone soils and bordered by forest at 350-400 meters altitude.

Catherine belongs to the Association des Vins Libres d’Alsace which promotes local organic wines without intervention. Work across the vineyard is manual, using a German Wilmes press to gently press the grapes. Her wines are unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulphites.
